Support for national artist award for ‘Manoy’ grows

ORMOC CITY—Actor and Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez has expressed support for moves to declare the late actor Eddie Garcia a national artist.

Gomez said Garcia has done so much to the Philippine industry.

“That is long overdue. He is an icon. He has done so much for the business and he has achieved so much,” Gomez said.

Gomez worked with Garcia in various films.

Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas, who is also an actor, said one of his priorities at the opening of the 18th Congress opens was to pass a resolution seeking to declare Garcia a national artist.

Vargas’ proposal gained support from within and outside the movie industry. Among those who expressed support was Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto who herself was being endorsed for the same award. (Editor: Tony Bergonia)
