MANILA, Philippines — The family of Eddie Garcia, who has been in coma since suffering an accident while filming on location for a GMA television series, has agreed to a “do not resuscitate” (DNR) instruction in case the actor should stop breathing, according to report by Jun Nardo posted on the Bandera website on Saturday.

But the family spokesman, Dr. Tony Rabosa, denied a rumor that the Garcias were planning to allow the actor’s life support system to be removed.

On the same day, the family had a prayer healing Mass said for the veteran actor at a church in Bel-Air, Makati.

A DNR instruction means that if a patient should stop breathing medical staff will not do cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR.

The statement, which was issued by Rabosa on Friday, says: “Pls be informed that the family of Mr. Eddie Garcia has not authorized nor has it consented to withdrawal of life support. They have however agreed to place him on DNR status. Thank you.”
