Pia Wurtzbach’s fans launched an online campaign for the beauty queen to get the coveted role of “Darna” when news broke out that actress Liza Soberano had to withdraw from the movie because of an injury.
But the 2015 Miss Universe winner said she was praying that the Kapamilya actress would still be able to take on the iconic role.
“I’m praying for Liza to recover, and eventually take on the role again,” Pia told Inquirer Entertainment on the sidelines of the “World Gin Day 2019” celebration, thrown by Ginebra San Miguel at Seda Vertis North in Quezon City on June 7.
Pia is the current calendar girl for the liquor brand.
“I was able to talk to [Liza] when we did ‘Asap’ in Australia, about her preparations. She trained really hard for the role and gave her 100 percent,” Pia shared.
Liza, who hurt her finger and had to undergo surgery, portrayed Pia in an “MMK” episode on the beauty queen’s life in 2016.
The beauty queen said the actress should focus on her recovery, and reminded Liza that she had the support and love of a lot of people, including her.
And while no formal offer has been made for her to try out for the role, Pia said she would consider taking it if the opportunity came knocking at her door.
“It’s a sought-after role. It’s every actress’ dream to portray that iconic character,” she explained.
These days, Pia is busy taping episodes for the next season of her Metro Channel program “Pia’s Postcards,” which is set to return to the ABS-CBN cable channel in September.
“We’re also in the process of finishing my fun movie with Vhong Navarro, for Black Sheep,” she shared.
