Rica Peralejo delivers second child at home sans medication

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Rica Peralejo gave birth to her second son named Manu after experiencing 25 hours of labor at home without medication.

“And so after 25 hours, this boy is finally out. I cannot wait to tell you all our birth story,” Peralejo wrote Sunday in an Instagram post.

“Let me just say that it was a miracle to actually do homebirth, vbac (vaginal birth after caesarian), and to remain completely unmedicated all throughout the labor,” she added.

VBAC, according to non-profit organization for maternity care Childbirth Connection, refers to vaginal delivery after a woman has already undergone a Caesarean section.

“So many times I wanted to quit,” Peralejo admitted. “But somehow strength came to my bones and body.”

In a separate post, a tearful Peralejo was seen in the photo with her newborn son and husband Joseph Bonifacio.

“How can I not shed tears if it had to take five years, 38 weeks of praying God will sustain him, 25 hours of labor before I can finally have this boy?” Peralejo wrote as caption.

Meanwhile, Bonifacio explained in a Facebook post that Manu’s name means “God with Us” and “God Who Heals.”

It was in January when Peralejo first announced she was pregnant with her second child.
