Bituin Escalante: Only Regine Velasquez would say yes if I joined ‘Idol Philippines’

MANILA, Philippines — Should she join singing competition “Idol Philippines,” singer and theater actress Bituin Escalante said only judge Regine Velasquez would say yes.

“If I joined Philippine Idol, Hindi ako papasa sa judges… kay Reg lang. At ok ako don,” Escalante said Tuesday in a Twitter post.

One netizen agreed, saying the other three judges have their standards “too high” and want someone who is “world class.”

“Malamang siguro. Mashado mataas yung standards nung 3 na judge. Pang world class. lol,” the netizen said.

Moira Dela Torre, James Reid and Vice Ganda join Velasquez in the roster of judges in ABS-CBN’s singing competition “Idol Philippines.”

Escalante responded to the netizen and said: “I can hear it nga e. ‘Nandon naman po yung voice but I need to see star quality.’”

Meanwhile, another netizen said Escalante is more deserving to be a judge in the singing competition: “Well in all honesty Ms. Bituin, mas deserve mo maging judge.”

But Escalante quipped no one would become famous because she would encourage them to do theater instead: “Ay Kung judge ako Walang sisikat kasi lahat hihikayatin Kong mag teatro.”

Meanwhile, Escalante clarified she was not “throwing shade,” but was just being “self aware.”

“I’m not trying to serve tea or throw shade. It’s a moment of self awareness. I am a singer but to other people that is just not enough. But I am ok with that,” she said.

Judges of “Idol Philippines” except Velasquez have been receiving backlash after turning down an aspiring reggae singer. Some netizens also questioned their credibility as part of the competition’s panel.
