Renz Fernandez

Renz Fernandez could pass for a Korean oppa. He’s all revved up for his next project on the Kapuso network. I’m not at liberty yet to divulge what the show is, but it’s a grandiose one.

Seeing how grown-up Renz is suddenly makes me feel so old. I remember when I gave birth to my daughter, my ever-fab Kumareng LT (Lorna Tolentino) was in the hospital suite beside mine. She was about to deliver Renz.

The youngest son of Lorna and Rudy Fernandez is surely coming into his own.

FEATURED STORIES

Here’s my chat with Renz:

What’s the best and toughest part of being the son of LT and Daboy? The best part is that my parents are lovers of art, so I am automatically exposed to it. This has given me a purpose and it made me appreciate life more. The toughest part is that I find myself striving for more, as opposed to letting everything flow naturally.

What advice from your dad do you follow to this day? To be humble. One should stay calm and cool, but also be ready at the same time. When the world is against you, eat “a pie of humbleness.”

If given a chance, which of his movies would you want to do a remake of? “Puga.” It is a prison escape tragedy and love story with a twist.

What’s your fave memory of your dad? When we were boxing together. The sweet science is a martial art that we both appreciated. My father is my idol, so training with him was surreal. It became my foundation in understanding respect, learning that we are mortal, and how life can be so dynamic.

What don’t people know about Lorna Tolentino? People don’t know that my mother has climbed mountains and stood up on a surf board. She doesn’t cook or drive, and hates to be between large buses, but she can pack a punch.

Renz’ parents: Lorna Tolentino (right) and the late Rudy Fernandez

In what ways are you like your dad and mom? I’m funny like my dad, and cool like my mom.

What will make you fall for a girl? If she can defeat me in video games and loves the beach as much as I do, then I will probably fall for her.

What do you find hard to understand about girls? Nothing. Girls rock!

What’s the naughtiest thing that you’ve done? I consider this as classified information (laughs).

If your dad were still around, what would you like to ask him about your show biz career and love? Can you give me honest feedback on my acting in this scene? What are the things I can improve on in my craft? Can you suggest any way for me to approach this scene? How should I court this beautiful lady? Do you think this girl and I match?

What do you think of girls who make the first move? They should be applauded because they’re keepers of the virtue called courage. I have high respect for girls who make the first move because it’s a gutsy thing that not all men can do.

Would you fall for an older woman? Definitely. Older women not only are more mature, some of them even look younger and are stronger than young women. I call these women timeless beauties. Age doesn’t matter in love.

When was the last time you dreamed about your dad? Two years ago. The dream was so strange and most parts were vague, but it happened after one of our dogs died. I remember he was giving me a piggyback ride. I was broken-hearted, and he told me, “Aso lang pala ang kailangan mo para makaiyak.”
