How Jordin Sparks overcame postpartum depression
A year after giving birth, Jordin Sparks opened up about the mental and emotional struggles she went through, as a result of postpartum depression.
“Everybody knows about postpartum depression—maybe not exactly what it all entails because it’s different for each woman—but there’s this thing called the fourth trimester, which happens after you have your baby,” said the singer, who welcomed Dana Jr.—her first child with husband Dana Isaiah—in May last year.
“It’s dealing with everything that happens with your body. Your body goes and changes, your hormones are absolutely insane. Then you’re dealing with this baby and then something doesn’t go right,” added Jordin, who won the sixth season of the reality talent search “American Idol.”
Her changes in mood or behavior became extreme and abrupt. “Sometimes, it feels hard to reach out because you’re like, ‘How do I feel so lonely when this amazing thing just happened?’” she said.
But with the support of her family and friends, the 29-year-old “No Air” singer was able to overcome the condition.
