MANILA, Philippines — Kris Aquino said she will not run for president if she is up against Sara Duterte, but she is willing to “gamble” everything if she is up against a Marcos.
“Ayoko pong upakan niya ako. Sorry ah, ito yung honest (I don’t want her to punch me. Sorry, but this is honest). I don’t see myself in a position of going against her because I find the narrative so wrong,” Aquino told reporters when asked if she would run for president against Duterte.
“Maling mali na kami ang pinagaaway eh kasi walang ugat. Kung tinanong niyo ako kung tatakbo ako kung Marcos ang tatakbo, bahala na si Batman, yes, isusugal ang lahat kung yun ang kalaban,” she added.
(It’s wrong to pit us against each other, there is no root. If you ask me if I will run [for president] against a Marcos, it’s up to Batman, but yes, I’ll gamble.)
Aquino pointed out that she will give it to the Dutertes if they decide to gun for the presidency again because they are not enemies.
“Pero kung Duterte ang tatakbo, ibibigay ko na po sa kanila ‘yun kasi wala kaming malalim na ugat, sugat or hindi namin sila kaaway (If a Duterte is running, I will give it to them because we don’t have a history of enmity. They are not enemies),” she said.
“Honestly ah. Ang feeling ko lang talaga gusto kaming pagawayin para nakakalimutan mo kung sino talaga ang matagal na ang away (Honestly, I feel that they want us to put us on opposing sides, so people will forget who the real enemies are),” she added.
Aquino said it “boggles the mind” why they are creating issues between her family and the Dutertes.
As far as the actress is concerned, during her brother’s term as president, there was no issue between him and Duterte.
“And so far, wala naman siyang matinding mura na ginawa sa brother ko, so far. Baka today,” she said in jest.
(And so far he [President Durterte] has not cursed my brother that much. Maybe now.)
“Pero so far wala pa. Asahan nalang natin na ganon (So far, there’s none. Let’s just hope it stays that way),” she added. /ee
