As the final season of “Game of Thrones” premieres on April 14, HBO and Columbia Records have announced the release of the accompanying soundtrack “For The Throne”.
Due out on April 26, the album will feature original tracks by The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding, The National and more.
It will not be The National’s first incursion into the universe of “Game of Thrones”. In 2012, the band recorded the show’s theme “Rains of Castamere” — which was later covered by Icelandic band Sigur Ros.
Other artists enlisted for “For The Throne” include late rapper Lil Peep, James Arthur, Chloe x Halle, SZA and Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy — for whom it will be the first solo release.
“For The Throne” will be released on 11 different vinyl configurations, with nine covers referring to each of the “Game of Thrones” family crests and two symbolizing fire and ice.
Although the album is due on April 26, fans can pre-order it as of now via Columbia Records. CE/NVG
