“It felt awkward,” said Mica Javier of how it was like to watch for the first time—with her fiancé, singer Jay-R—the hot lesbian love scenes she agreed to do for an episode of iWant’s adult series, “Hush.”
“I was so nervous. It was his first time to see me do a scene like that. He was surprised,” recalled the singer-turned-actress. “But it was so tastefully done… You think of the story and what the characters are trying to say. If I did a good job, then that’s what he commended me for.”
Mica, niece of Apo Hiking Society member Danny Javier, said she didn’t have to ask Jay-R’s permission to take on the controversial role. “We’re both [grown-up] individuals. We have our career goals. We want to keep pushing ourselves to wherever our career will take us,” she declared.
“But he knew from Day 1 that I was being offered this project,” said Mica of the episode, titled “Here She Comes.” The series “Hush,” produced by Indigital Productions, started streaming on March 6.
“At first, it was intimidating, but after I’ve had a few meetings with producers, everything felt right. Jay-R was excited for me. He said, ‘If you think it will challenge you, go for it!’ He was proud,” added Mica, who is also a member of the group GirlTrends from “It’s Showtime.”
For the episode directed by Gino Santos, Mica had to do the love scene with actress Mara Lopez. “OK lang,” she said of the shoot. “I’m close to both of them. It was a very comfortable set. Gino never made us do anything we weren’t comfortable doing. We also didn’t show anything incriminating.”
Asked what went through her mind while doing it, Mica said: “Aside from the inner monologues and objectives that I had to equip myself with to actually be the character, I wanted to get the good shot. The less shots we had to take, the better, because we didn’t have to keep doing it.”
She further explained: “It’s an intimate thing that you just don’t do with anyone. And because it’s acting, you don’t want to keep repeating it and make everyone feel stressed out when you don’t get the shot right away. We did our best. Gino didn’t require a lot of takes. I’m thankful for that.”
Mica described the scene as “intense and sensual; not malaswa at all… There’s a way to get the shots so we didn’t have to resort to anything too extreme to achieve the fantasy of what the scene required.”
While Mica said she didn’t get to see lesbian-themed movies before the shoot, she got to watch a lot of love scenes that featured Hollywood actresses she admires, like Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez. “I took some time to watch clips of how they executed those scenes. That helped a lot in terms of how I moved or angled my body on the set.”
For this particular episode, Mica is confident that members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community “will be happy about it. We were careful and truthful. We didn’t want to offend their feelings. For me, it’s very uplifting.”
On a lighter note, Mica revealed that her wedding with Jay-R would take place in Boracay in 2020. “We just want to have fun and be with the people we love on that day,” she shared with Inquirer. “I want it to be outdoors and not too traditional. I want it to feel like how my relationship with Jay-R is—chill, beautiful, simple and full of love.”
Mica swore that she is no “bridezilla.” “I’m so chill … [although] I’m hands-on with everything. I already have a vision of what I want to happen. It will be great.”
