Mikhail Red’s ‘The Grandstand’ wins in HK-Asia film forum
MANILA, Philippines — Filmmaker Mikhail Red’s “The Grandstand” won the Focus Asia Award at the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), one of Asia’s “most prominent co-production platforms.”
Red happily shared the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday captioned: “The Grandstand wins the Focus Asia Award at the Hong Kong Asian Film Financing Forum!”

The 27-year-old filmmaker presented at this year’s HAF his project “The Grandstand” inspired by the real-life 2010 hostage crisis that took place at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
According to HAF’s website, the Focus Asia Award, which is presented by Udine Far East Film Festival, aims to encourage and facilitate coproduction between Asia and Europe.
The winning project will be invited by the representative of Udine Far East Film Festival to participate in Focus Asia 2019 held in Italy.
The HAF brings Asian filmmakers with upcoming film projects to Hong Kong for “co-production ventures with top film financiers, producers, bankers, distributors and buyers.”
The forum ran from March 18 to 20 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center in Wanchai, Hong Kong.
Past Filipino participants at the forum are Adolfo Alix Jr., Jun Robles Lana, and Brillante Mendoza. /cbb
