Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on why he can’t judge Game of Thrones’ Jaime and Cersei Lannister
One of the first bombs that the “Game of Thrones” revealed was in its first episode: royal twins Jaime and Cersei Lannister’s incestuous relationship.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime in the series, discussed how he kept their relationship appearing sincere, as reported by Men’s Health yesterday, March 13.
“I think most people have at least been attracted to someone you shouldn’t be,” he explained. “Not your sister, but someone you really shouldn’t fall in love with. Like your best friend’s girlfriend. It’s one of the few true love stories in ‘Game of Thrones’—Jaime is dedicated to this woman.”
In the series, Jaime remains loyal to Cersei, who is played by Lena Headey, through wars and their children’s deaths, although by season 7, his devotion to her wavers because of her ruthlessness.
In 2017, Headey gave her analysis of the twins’ relationship to Time, revealing that she and Coster-Waldau talk about their roles at length.
“With Cersei and Jaime, we’ve always talked about it—Cersei’s always wanted to be him. Therefore, for her, that relationship is completion,” she said.

He truly loves her, he’s truly in love with Cersei, but I don’t think her love was pure love, I think it was respect and a kind of need.”
