Karla reveals son Daniel’s home-cooked specialty

For actress-host Karla Estrada, cooking for someone is a manifestation of love, and she does this for her four children, not only because they ask her to do it, but because she enjoys whipping up something in the kitchen for them.

“As early as 12 years old, I have been cooking, back in the day when I was still in Tacloban,” the actress-host told the Inquirer at the sidelines of her launch as the newest celebrity endorser for Lee Kum Kee products last week.

“I didn’t take up cooking lessons; I just learned from experience,” added the single mother of four children, the most popular of whom is matinee idol Daniel Padilla.

But because she and Daniel are both busy with work, and her other kids are still in school, she rarely gets the chance to cook for her family.

“I only get to cook for my kids in the summer, when we’re all complete,” she shared.

“They always ask for pata tim or chicken tinola sa gata,” she added.

Karla said nothing beats the feeling of seeing all her kids together and showing them how much she loved them regardless of how busy she got.

She also revealed that Daniel had found his way to her kitchen.

His specialty? “Steak and barbecue!”

The actress-host noted: “I didn’t teach him. He just learned to do it by himself, especially now that we can afford these kinds of food.”

Karla said she cherished the opportunity she’s getting now of being able to spend time with her kids, because it was extremely hard for her to do this before when she was still struggling to make a living for her family.

“Back then, I was always away from home, trying to make ends meet. It wasn’t easy raising four kids,” she recalled.

“I had no choice but to work and deal with being away from them,” she said.

Karla is still busy now, but she already has the luxury of finding the time to do the things she wants to do together with her family.

This week, Karla leads the cast of the comedy flick “Familia Blondina,” which began its theatrical run last Wednesday.
