Celebs’ Lenten sacrifice

The onset of Lent is a signal for most Filipinos to start planning their long vacation. But what about taking time out to do some self-introspection?

In a deeper sense, “Lent” can also mean that we’re living on borrowed time. So we ought to be less worldly.

I asked some celebrities what they are giving up for Lent. Our little sacrifices are nothing when we think about the sufferings Jesus endured for us. I don’t mean to sound preachy but we all need some spiritual awakening once in awhile.

MIRIAM QUIAMBAO: “I’m giving up fear, which blocks me from trusting, loving and living life to the fullest.”

OGIE Alcasid eats light, abstains from alcohol.

POKWANG gives up her love life.

MR. FU: “I have been trying to avoid white rice for weeks, as part of my diet, but I would like to be consistent with my sacrifice. So this Lent, no white rice. Nakapag-diet na, nakapagsakripisyo pa. Lalabanan ko si Kim Chiu sa pagpapapayat. May ganun?”

POKWANG: “I’m giving up my love life for Lent kasi mas bongga ang bigay ni God na love. Kaya okay lang na tumanda ako ng walang jowa kasi love ako ni God.”

BUBBLES PARAISO: “I’m giving up wine. Last Lent I gave up chocolates.”
