Katarina Rodriguez is not one to stay silent when someone questions her advocacies.
Without expecting to be mocked, Miss World Philippines 2018 first posted a photo of herself beaming and greeting her fans a Happy Chinese New Year on her Instagram page last Tuesday, Feb. 5.
While most of her followers were awed, one netizen going by the handle @andreiii_76 differed in his reaction, and even questioned Rodriguez about what she believes.
“Diba advocacy mo sa Miss World is peace education? (Isn’t your advocacy in Miss World is peace education?)” the netizen asked. “Ano masasabi mo sa recent bombings sa Mindanao? Bakit tahimik ka na ngayon? Dahil ba tapos na Miss World at clapper ka? Kalowka.”
(What can you say about the recent bombings in Mindanao? Why are you silent all of a sudden? Is it because Miss World is done and you’re just a clapper [now]? How crazy.)
Mindanao has been recently rocked by bombings. The Marian Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Jolo, Sulu became a target of twin blasts, leaving 20 dead and 111 injured.
But Rodriguez hit back, saying she does not need to promote the meetings she does on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis.
“Before Miss World or any pageants I was already involved but never posted on social media,” she told the netizen. “I don’t need to show everything I do on social media or be active on IG (Instagram) all the time. Give me a break, ikaw ang ‘kalowka’ (you’re the crazy one).”
During her stint at the Miss World pageant, Rodriguez featured the embattled city of Marawi in her “Beauty with a Purpose” campaign video. The campaign saw her speaking to children, students and other civilians who were victims during the 2017 siege. She also talked about “Project Become,” which aims to help rebuild schools and send back the kids to school, among others. JB
