Action star Robin Padilla expressed his disappointment over former presidential spokesman Harry Roque’s withdrawal from the Senate race. Roque withdrew his candidacy for senator on Friday, Feb. 1, citing as reason his recent “percutaneous coronary intervention” due to an unstable angina coronary disease.
“Bakit naman kung sino pa yun karapat dapat sa senado at batid nating lahat na magdeliver talaga ng trabaho ay siya pang nagkakasakit,” wrote Padilla on Feb. 4 as he cited a report of Roque’s withdrawal.
“Nakakalungkot ang balitang ito dahil sa aking listahan number 4 ka sir Harry Roque.”
Padilla said Roque deserved to have a seat in the Senate and not those “who pretend to be smart, but have never done anything during their time.”
“Kayo po ay karapat dapat na maupo sa Senado, kayo po talaga ang nababagay para don,” he said of Roque. “Hindi yun mga nagpapanggap na matatalino at magagaling pero wala rin naman nagawa sa panahon nila.”
Padilla kept the faith, trusting that something else may be in store for Roque. He also thanked Roque for his service to the “Davao Revolution” and his defense of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“We will pray for your fast recovery and will continue to support you sir!! I will never forget your service to the Davao Revolution and how you defended my Leader President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD).”
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed last Friday that Roque’s name will not be included on the official ballot for the midterms elections in May.
Meanwhile, Roque admitted on Monday, Feb. 4, that he was open to returning to the Duterte Cabinet, but no government position has been offered to him yet.
“I am open to it,” Roque was quoted as saying. “It depends on what it is, of course. But that’s being presumptuous. I don’t even want to go there.” /ra
