Why it took Toni Gonzaga and Paul Soriano 8 years before going on an overnight trip

MANILA, Philippines — Actress Toni Gonzaga opened up about why it took eight years before she and husband Paul Soriano were able to go on an overnight trip.

In a video blog posted on her Youtube channel on Wednesday titled “Why it pays to wait,” she shared moments from her trip to Amanpulo with Soriano and their son Seve.

She then opened up about how envious she was of couples who were able to go on out-of-town trips. When she asked for permission from her parents, she said they would always shot the idea down.

“Pag magpapaalam ako, alam na alam ko na agad ang sasabihin ni mommy, ‘Wag ka nga feeling dyan! Anong gagawin niyo doon, mag-ho-honeymoon?’” Gonzaga said.

She also shared what her father says whenever she asks for permission about going on trips, even describing him as “OA sa lahat ng mga OA.”

Gonzaga said, quoting her father, “‘Alam mo, Celestine, malaki ka na. May pera ka, kumikita ka, kaya mong gawin ang lahat ng gusto mo. Gawin mo ‘yan. Pero ito lang ang masasabi ko sa ‘yo. Oras na ginawa mo ‘yan, tapos na ang pagiging ama ko sa iyo. Hinding-hindi ko na kakausapin si Paul kahit kailan at wala ka na ring ama.’”

Nonetheless, she admired Soriano for being so patient with her, saying: “Nakakabilib din naman si Paul. Kasi for eight years never niyang sinabi sa’kin na ‘Magrebelde ka na, gawin mo na ‘yung gusto mo, may pera ka na.’”

“He always tells me lang na: ‘What can we do? That’s the rule of your parents. We just have to listen and obey them,’” she added.

Despite having strict parents and having to wait a long time, the 35-year-old actress-host shared: “I realized that your obedience and sacrifice will always be rewarded in the end.”

“Medyo matagal-tagal ang hinintay ko para ma-experience ko ‘to, but it was all worth it. Kaya pala ako pinaghintay ng matagal kasi may magandang nakalaan,” Gonzaga said. /jpv
