Moira Dela Torre wants to reduce plastic waste after honeymoon in El Nido, Maldives

Moira Dela Torre’s honeymoon has given her an appreciation not only of marriage but also of nature.

The “Tagpuan” singer-songwriter revealed on social media today that she wants to care more for the environment after spending time with husband Jason Marvin in the clear blue waters of El Nido, Palawan and the Maldives.

“During our honeymoon in El Nido & Maldives, we fell in love w our country & our planet all over again,” she tweeted today, Jan. 28.

“In the last two weeks, we realized we simply couldn’t go on w our lives [without] promising to be kinder to our home. Help! Suggestions are welcomed.”

She asked for recommendations too in going zero-waste, and netizens chimed in on tips and places to shop for a plastic-free lifestyle.

Yesterday, Jan. 27, Dela Torre expressed awe at the cleanliness in the Palawan destination.

“Not once did we see plastic on any of the islands in the 5 days we spent there,” she said, sharing a picture of the resort villas they stayed in.

El Nido’s local government banned single-use plastic on boat tours last September to prevent pollution. It has an ordinance that regulates the use of plastics as food and drink containers.

Sharing a picture of the crystal clear water, she said, “I mean look at that.”

“Wouldn’t it break your heart too if I told you that I did find plastic in El Nido? But one that was from another country, tucked underneath the corals?”

The couple spent the first five days of their honeymoon in El Nido and are now basking in another hideaway in the Maldives. JB
