Action star Robin Padilla is gearing up for his role as former Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who is running for senator in the May midterm elections, in a biopic slated to come out soon.

Padilla, as known, recently shaved his head for the role and shared a teaser of the movie, “Bato: The Ronald dela Rosa Story,” via Instagram last Jan. 7.

The teaser did not fail to dazzle his most fervent fans and admirers including actress Angel Locsin and actor Vhong Navarro, who praised the action star.

“Galing kuya kuhang kuha mo yung tindig niya,” commended Locsin.

“Ang astig idol @robinhoodpadilla,” said Navarro.

A photo of Padilla wearing Dela Rosa’s uniform was also shared on Instagram account @pamilyapadilla last Jan. 9.

Meanwhile, Padilla paid homage to the movie’s director, Adolfo Alix Jr., via his own Instagram account by sharing photos of the two of them in what seemed to be during the shooting of the biopic.

Despite the excitement surrounding Padilla’s upcoming movie, however, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) recently warned that biopics of candidates shown during the election campaign will be prosecuted for violation of election laws.

Thus far, there is still no exact release date for the biopic, although Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez made clear last Jan. 6 that films about politicians running for public office “should not be exhibited or played in theaters at all during the campaign period.”

Jimenez’s remarks were in accordance with Republic Act No. 9006, or the Fair Elections Act, which states that no movie, cinematography or documentary portraying the life or biography of a candidate shall be publicly exhibited in a theater, television station or any public forum during the campaign period.  /ra
