Melissa McCarthy wins hair and makeup award for transformative characters
Melissa McCarthy is known for her ability to transform into myriad characters, and now the actress is being honored for her talent by the 2019 Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards.
The Emmy Award-winning “Bridesmaids” star has been named the winner of this year’s “Distinguished Artisan Award” for her collaborative approach to working with makeup artists and hairstylists for her various roles in the movies, television, commercials and live theater.
“Melissa collaborates with our creative artisans in every character she develops — whether it’s the SNL parody of Sean Spicer or the true-to-life author Lee Israel,” said Sue Cabral-Ebert, Emmy-nominated makeup artist and President of the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild IATSE Local 706. “This is also a historic moment as Melissa is the first woman to ever receive this honor from our guild.”
The Guild’s Distinguished Artisan Award honors entertainers whose body of work has been “richly enhanced by the consistent collaboration of makeup and hair styling artistry” to create memorable characters. Previous winners of the award include Gary Oldman, Johnny Depp and Guillermo del Toro.
Since rising to fame with her roles in “Gilmore Girls” and “Bridesmaids”, McCarthy has starred in “Life of the Party”, “The Hangover Part III” and “Ghostbusters”, and has hosted “Saturday Night Live” several times.
