Macaulay Culkin’s name is bound to get more confusing after his claims that he would change his middle name, based on an internet vote.
Last November, the “Home Alone” actor asked netizens to vote on his new middle name. His current one is “Carson”.
“My middle name is something dumb. Larry? Orange? Honestly, I can’t even remember it. So I asked you all to send in some better options so I can go down to the court house and explain to a judge why I need to change my middle name to something cool,” he said on his website Bunny Ears.
The shortlist consisted of “Macaulay Culkin,” “Shark Week,” “Kieran”—his brother’s name, “TheMcRibIsBack” and “Publicity Stunt.”
The clear winner was “Macaulay Culkin” with 60,990 votes by the end of the poll on Christmas Eve. In second place was TheMcRibIsBack with 14,558 votes.
This means if he legally changes his name, he will be Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin — quite a mouthful. He announced on Twitter on Dec. 25 that it will be his new legal name in 2019.
Merry Christmas to me, from all of you!
My new middle name has been chosen. You voted and the winner is clear.
In 2019 my new legal name will be:
Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.
It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name).#MerryChristmas

He went on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” last November to announce that he would legally change his name and was excited about the prospect of saying “Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.”
He has yet to update fans about the name change — his website is known for its satirical content, so the stunt could be taken with a grain of salt. JB
