Singer and former National Youth Commission chairperson Ice Seguerra and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray indeed have something in common.
Long before she was hailed “the most beautiful in the universe,” Gray has had a long history of pageants she participated in. Gray was once a contestant of “Little Miss Philippines” in 1999, from where she won as “Little Miss Philippines-Sydney.” She first shared the memento on her Instagram account back in 2016.
Seguerra first shot to fame herself through “Little Miss Philippines”, which he joined in 1987. In a video clip of her stint posted on the PacificIslander Youtube page, Seguerra showed wit in the contest’s question and answer portion, where he was asked what he will do with the prize money should he win the contest.
Given the fact, Seguerra could not help but acknowledge his similarity with Gray in an Instagram post on Monday, Dec. 17. He posted a stitched photo of a young and present Gray, side by side. Seguerra injected humor in his post, saying, “Nag Little Miss Philippines pala si Catriona, ako din naman ah…” (Catriona joined Little Miss Philippines — I did too!).
Seguerra also added the hashtags “#anyare (what happened)” and “#ibanglandas (different path),” as if to poke fun at himself. The singer-actor and former child star is now a trans man.
Some netizens were amused with Seguerra’s comparison, such as one @o.susan who said that Seguerra’s post made her day.
Another netizen, @cola_curves, pointed out that aside from being contestants in the kiddie contest, they are both singers as well. Gray has recently released a song, “We’re in this Together”, in support of the Young Focus International organization, dedicated to help the poor children of Tondo, Manila.
In the same spirit of fun, one fan @yanarbon declared that Seguerra will always be her “Little Miss Philippines” idol. JB
