Ryan Potter’s ‘shape-shifting’ expectations for ‘Titans’ role

Ryan Potter

Ryan Potter, who plays the shape-shifting Beast Boy in the new live-action “Titans” series, is mostly excited to play this particular superhero. The Japanese-American actor recently told Showbiz Junkies, “It’s fun, but it’s also a bummer sometimes, because you almost want to be the animal … And they’re like, ‘OK, so we’re doing the tiger transformation.’ You’re like, ‘I can’t actually do that. So, CGI, please.’”

Beast Boy can change into almost any animal, but it always sports a green color. Potter admitted feeling apprehensive when he saw his transformation into a tiger, initially.

“To be 100 percent honest, when I first saw it, I was a little disappointed,” he said. “But since then, they’ve done multiple passes, and I’m really happy with how it’s looking, especially for a first episode of a first season.”

The 23-year-old, who previously voiced the lead character of the animated Disney film “Big Hero 6,” said of his new DC Comics-inspired show, “The production value of everything just increases over time and to have the tiger look the way it does straight off the bat, it’s a testament to how much effort they’re trying to put into the series. They could have just focused on Robin and the suit, but they took the time in making sure the green of the tiger was right… The amount of work they put into it is wild.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
