Being in the spotlight is not all glitz and glamour; it has its downsides too, and celebrities know these things all too well. Apart from being more vulnerable to bashing and criticism both online and in real life, celebrities are also pressured to live up to unattainable beauty standards made to be the norm in the entertainment industry.

Singer-songwriter Leila Alcasid, however, is not having any of it. She recently took to social media and vented her exasperation about people’s superficiality when it comes to physical looks.

“I don’t get why people are so concerned with what others look like?????” Alcasid wrote on Twitter last Dec. 4. “If someone doesn’t live up to ur personal standard for weight/looks are you really gonna die if you don’t say something????????????”

Her tweet has since garnered over 3,000 likes and a thousand retweets, her fans seemingly echoing her sentiments when it comes to the superficial set of standards that surrounds physical beauty.

Dad Ogie Alcasid, on his end, was quick to offer words of wisdom to Leila, as he replied to her post on the same day.

“That’s because we live in a fallen world and this world has worldly standards,” Ogie told his daughter. “We all need to bring God’s kingdom here on earth as his standards are heavenly.”

Ogie also shared a verse from the Gospel of Matthew, specifically chapter 6, verse 10. “‘Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,'” Ogie wrote. “Love you anak. You are beautiful to us who love you.”

Imparting lessons and words of wisdom, as well as being a source of comfort, is just one of the things that come with fatherhood—an undertaking Ogie shared was his most favorite. And although Leila
already turned 21 this year, Ogie continues to look out for her by being her rock.

Meanwhile Leila, back in October 2017, called her dad her “daddy-ger” for she consults him every step of the way.

“He’s my ‘daddy-ger,'” she said then. “He is very helpful in everything. He isn’t strict, just protective.”  /ra
