If there is one thing Shawn Mendes is known for aside from his talent in singing, it is the squeaky-clean image the 20-year-old maintains. Imagine his fans’ surprise then when he dropped the bomb on his favorite recreation.
Mendes went unfiltered, shedding his good boy image in the process, when he revealed his love for cannabis in an interview with Rolling Stone, published on Monday, Nov. 26.
“I love weed,” he told the publication. “I wouldn’t tweet that — not yet, at least — but it’s really good for me. When I’m home, I’ll smoke and then play guitar for seven hours.”
During his trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands with his high school friends in celebration of his 20th birthday, Mendes said he wanted to try the shrooms he saw. These are fungi that contain psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound.
“I want to so badly,” he stated, but clarified he chose not to. “I think it would help me a lot.”
Mendes’ candid confession divided his fans who were undoubtedly shocked by the news. Some were devastated upon hearing his love for weed.

Other fans doubted the accuracy of the interview saying there was no way Mendes would confess to smoking pot.

Don’t believe EVERYTHING you read!! Some interviewers have a really weird way of twisting words, if Shawn feels uncomfortable with the way anything was worded, I’m sure he will come and let us know!!!

Aside from his revelation that he loves cannabis, Mendes opened up on the subject of him and model Hailey Baldwin’s relationship. The two made headlines after appearing together at the 2018 Met Gala red carpet in May.
Withdrawing his earlier statement that they were just “really good friends,” he divulged that they had been more than friends, although he does not want to put a label on what they were.
Mendes also addressed the rumors on his sexuality. The 20-year-old said that while he is “a little more feminine,” he is not gay. JB
