Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin just ‘good friends’

When pop star Shawn Mendes recently turned up on the Met Gala red carpet with model Hailey Baldwin in his arms, fans and media outlets were quick to speculate that the two were romantically involved.

But in a recent interview with People magazine, the 19-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter insisted that he and Hailey, who is Stephen Baldwin’s daughter, are just “really good friends.”

“We were not making our big debut (as a couple) … We were both asked to walk by Tommy Hilfiger,” Shawn clarified, adding that he only wanted some confidence boost from Hailey, because he had never
attended events like it.

“It was just cool for me to be able to walk with her because she’s a vet and it was my first year, so it took the pressure off a little bit,” he said. “I was thrilled to be able to go with her.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
