‘The Lion King’ remake trailer breaks audience record

In the 24 hours following the debut of Disney’s “The Lion King” trailer, some 224.6 million views across multiple platforms gave it a record-breaking audience total within the studio network.

The 224.6m views ascribed to “The Lion King” is a record for Disney debut trailers.

Disney reported the number through its social media accounts.

It would be the most 24-hour views for a Disney movie trailer in general, were it not for “Avengers: Infinity War”, one of whose promo videos racked up 238 million views within an identical period.

Either way, the numbers mean that the “Lion King” trailer is likely primed for even greater saturation.

Due from July 19, 2019, “The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau (2016’s “The Jungle Book”) and features Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and Beyoncé in key roles.

It is a remake of a previous 1994 animated film, and its trailer pays homage, replicating the first segment of the earlier film’s own trailer almost shot-for-shot, while leaving more space for follow-up material. JB
