Briana Venskus on what it takes to be ‘authentically’ bisexual

One would think that openly bisexual actress Briana Venskus’ androgynous good looks and lifestyle were real enough to help her land gay roles. But, that’s not the case, as she reported on Instagram recently.

“I was just informed that I was not cast in a role on a show because I wasn’t seen as ‘authentically LGBTQ’ enough. After I picked up my jaw off the floor, I pieced together my thoughts enough to say this … Are you f**king blind?!… I’m so tired and frustrated with this Hollywood stereotype of [the] LGBTQ,” said the actress, who has recurring roles in popular fantasy-sci-fi shows, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Supergirl” and “The Walking Dead.”

Venskus, 34, continued, “Why are we perpetuating the stereotypes and generalities that have been set for us by people who don’t even know us? Acting is just that … acting.”

The Los Angeles-based actress also reiterated, “I am a bisexual woman, I am in the LGBTQ community, and I live authentically every damn day.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
