Jolina Magdangal was more than content to have a simple celebration with her family at home as she turned 40 last Nov. 6.
However, her loved ones, especially husband and Rivermaya musician Mark Escueta had other plans for her.
Escueta organized an elaborate surprise party for her yesterday, Nov. 7 at The Cove in Okada Manila. There was even a secret invitation made for the occasion which was butterfly-themed.
Escueta put together the event along with his wife’s manager, Perry Lansigan and events planner Teena Barretto, as per the Philippine Entertainment Portal today, Nov. 8. He told Magdangal that they were attending an aunt’s dinner and she had no clue about the occasion.
In the venue, Magdangal’s pictures were flashed on screens, while 1990s music such as the Backstreet Boys played in the background.
A multi-tiered cake decorated with butterflies awaited her — presumably a throwback to her signature butterfly clips back in the ‘90s.
A video from Star Magic showed Momshie Jolens in total shock at seeing the party was for her.
She was still surrounded by family, but this time it included those from her various television and movie projects throughout the years.
Her “labtim” partner Marvin Agustin was also there, along with her “Magandang Buhay” momshies Karla Estrada and Melai Cantiveros.
Other “families” included those from “Your Face Sounds Familiar” such as Nyoy Volante and Jay-R, and colleagues from “ASAP”, “Ang TV” and Star Magic.
Celebrities who made it to the bash included Gabby Eigenmann, EJ Falcon, Max Collins, Sunshine Dizon, Nikki Valdez and Roselle Nava.
During her thank you speech, she said she did not think of having a party because she thought no one would come, because she has not spoken to a number of her colleagues for some time.
She said she had hoped for a big party when she was 50 and was planning to reconnect with friends so she could throw one in the future. JB
