Jasmine Curtis-Smith has found strength to overcome cyberbullies and bashers by building up her self-confidence.
The actress had her own brush with negativity online like many other celebrities, but there were times when the bashing and trolling really affected her. To overcome the negativity, Curtis-Smith realized she had to overcome her own insecurities. “I can see, after my birthday this year, I became a little bit stronger. May na-build ng konting confidence. All I can say is you really learn to love yourself para ang sarili mo lang yung pakikinggan mo,” said the actress in an exclusive interview with Push.

Curtis-Smith recalled how overly sensitive she was to posts she saw on Twitter and Instagram. It came to a point where the comments made her cry.
She said, “On social media, it’s very easy, it’s very cruel, kasi kung mataba ka, at fault ka. Kung payat ka, at fault ka. Kung sobrang ganda mo, at fault ka. Kung may mga pekas ka sa mukha, at fault ka.”
(On social media, it’s very easy, it’s very cruel, because if you’re fat, you’re at fault. If you’re thin, you’re at fault. If you’re too pretty, you’re at fault. If you have freckles, you’re at fault.)
The actress recalled one post she made on Instagram that garnered over 500 comments, the majority of which were made by bashers. This caused her insecurity to skyrocket.
However, the indiscriminate attacks by bashers and bullies also made Curti-Smith decide to just put her smartphone down and not mind the comments. So far, she said it has worked for her.
“Basta stand your ground, know yourself para you can love yourself enough, na wag mong ibigay yung sarili mong negative energy don sa kanila hindi kanila ma-affect.”
