Celebrities Ogie Diaz, Ethel Booba and Leah Navaro recently made use of their respective platforms to call out political dynasties. Action star Robin Padilla echoed their sentiments, but remains firm in his support of politicians who happen to be from a particular political family: Sara and Sebastian “Baste” Duterte who are both running for local positions in the upcoming 2019 midterm elections.
Padilla took to Instagram today, Oct. 23, to express his sentiment on what he acknowledged as “the biggest problem in the Philippines: political dynasty.” He made his post with the tag “Duterteism.”
Uploading a photo of Baste holding his certificate of candidacy for Davao City vice mayor beside his sister, Sara, who will run for the post of Davao City mayor, Padilla expressed his support for the siblings despite his supposed anti-political dynasty stand.
“Ang pinakamalaking problema dito sa Inangbayan ay ang (The biggest problem in our motherland is) political dynasty,” he wrote. “But there is hope for us in this coming midterm elections though not with the unitary system of government but with the new breed of local leadership. I am for Sarah and Baste.”
After reiterating his preference for “a revolutionary government with the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he reminded his fans that they should not be misled by his endorsement of candidates as he said he is only performing his duty as a tax-payer. He maintained that it is his right to choose the politicians who will spend the tax he pays. JB
