Singer Lea Salonga asserted that everyone has the right to express their opinion, amid the backlash her former love team partner actor Aga Muhlach received, regarding his statement on Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV.
Ogie Diaz took to Facebook yesterday, Oct. 22 to call out Atty. Jesus Falcis’ now-deleted post about Muhlach. Diaz said that he respects Muchlach’s view despite having a different opinion on the Senator. He also called foul Falcis’ use of the word “bobo” (stupid) to describe the actor.
Salonga took to the comments section of Diaz’s post to say her thoughts on the matter.
“Nicely said. Ika nga, ‘I may not like what you said, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,'” she wrote. “I’m only paraphrasing here, but that’s the thought.”
“This is supposed to be a democracy, and everyone has their right to an opinion,” she stated. “As citizens of this republic, we have the right to criticize our leaders. A right, and a duty.”

In a separate comment, Salonga said that more than the criticisms, she is more frustrated with the lack of communication between people of different political beliefs.

“Be you red, yellow or blue, we need to serve the country first,” she stated. “We are a country of 100 million people, each with an opinion and a unique point of view, hoping for our public servants to start working for us. (To be fair, there are politicians who put their constituents first. May their kind thrive.)”
Muhlach drew mixed reactions when he and “First Love” co-star Bea Alonzo gave their two cents on the Senator during a guesting on the talk show “Gandang Gabi Vice”. Muhlach said that Trillanes should “just help” the current administration instead of complaining. JB
