Megan Young is new #ZeroHunger champion

Miss World 2013 Megan Young is the new #ZeroHunger champion in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The beauty queen and actress shared the goals of the #ZeroHunger campaign in line with the celebration of World Food Day on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

“We can become the Zero Hunger generation, the first generation to eliminate hunger from the planet, if we join forces across nations, continents, sectors and professions, and act on the evidence,” Young wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.

She said that the key to building a hunger-free world is to waste less, eat better and adapt a sustainable lifestyle.

Young also posted a photo of a candle-lighting ceremony with pledge to ensure food security to Filipinos.

While hunger is on the rise, Young said over 600 million people suffer from obesity and over 1.3 billion are overweight.

#ZeroHunger, she explained, “means working together to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has access to safe and healthy food.”

On what people can do to make #ZeroHunger a way of life, the beauty queen listed simple actions in a separate Instagram post.

“Become a #ZeroHunger advocate! Be informed about #ZeroHunger,” she added.

Megan Young is the first Philippine representative to win the Miss World title in 2013.
