Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat, known for his roles in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”, only spends about $102 a month (around P5,000). He also plans to donate his estimated net worth of $714.6 million (about P38.6 billion) to various charities.
Despite his wealth, Chow maintains a frugal lifestyle, as reported by ETtoday.net via JayneStars.com on Wednesday, Oct. 1o. Instead of driving luxury cars, he prefers taking public transportation. He takes pride in eating at food stalls instead of at fancy restaurants.
When it comes to shopping, he knows the best deals are found at discount stores. Apparently, he also finds happiness and satisfaction in coming across relatively cheap clothes.
“I don’t wear clothes for other people,” he said in the report. “As long as I think it’s comfortable, then it’s good enough for me.”
Chow revealed he used a first-generation Nokia phone for 17 years. He, unfortunately, switched to using a smartphone two years ago when his Nokia phone stopped working.
To ensure his physical well-being, the frugal actor does hiking and jogging. “The biggest mistake in life is to exchange health for things outside of the body,” he shared.
Chow’s wife, Jasmine Tan, was responsible for divulging the actor’s multi-million net worth, as per report. She also disclosed her husband’s plans to give his money away to various charities.
“The money’s not mine,” Chow said when asked why he will donate his money. “I’m only keeping it safe for the time being.”
“My dream is to be a happy and normal person,” the actor added. “The hardest thing in life is not about how much money you earn, but how to keep a peaceful mindset and live the rest of your life in a simple and carefree manner.”
