Radio personality Nicole Hyala is known for speaking her mind. It doesn’t come as a surprise then that she became vocal when a basher’s comment left a bad taste in her mouth.

Hyala shared her maternity photos via Instagram last week. While many lauded her for embracing her pregnant body, one basher, @patrickliamezzeden, commented in one of her photos that her belly button is ugly. The said basher went as far as to give Hyala the nickname “#ligwakpusodqueen.”

This comment did not sit well with Hyala admonished the body shamer yesterday, Oct. 8. She acknowledged the people who love her while also opening up about the online bullying she receives every day.

“Face-shaming is horrible in itself, but I think body-shaming a pregnant woman is too much,” she wrote. “The nature of my job makes me an easy target for criticism. I understand that. But I do not deserve it. Especially not for the changes that occurred as I grow a human being inside my body.”

“Hamakin niyo na ako sa lahat ng aspeto. Wag lang sa pagiging nanay ko,” she fiercely stated. “Dahil sumusobra na kayo.”

(You can disparage me in all aspects, but not my being a mother, because that’s too much.)

She recounted that she rejected her photographer’s offer of having her belly button edited or flattened out when they did the photoshoot. She embraced all the body changes pregnancy brought with it, including developing an umbilical hernia from her first pregnancy. She maintained she is willing to have her body undergo more changes if it means having more children.

“And to you Patrick (even if this is just a poser account), I hope that your mother will never have to go through body-shaming,” she told her basher. “I pray that you will be careful with your words next time. Because words can kill or heal.”

She ended her post with a quote from behavioral scientist and author Steve Maraboli: “When you judge a woman by her appearance, it doesn’t define her. It defines you.”

Hyala’s basher’s Instagram account has been disabled, as of this writing. JB
