WATCH: KC Concepcion shares emotional duet with Sharon Cuneta

Sharon Cuneta celebrated 40 years in the showbiz industry with a sold-out concert last Friday, Sept. 28, that packed the Araneta Coliseum, overwhelming even the Megastar herself.

More than the performances, highlights of the concert were personal moments with family and friends who have been with her throughout her time in the limelight.

KC Concepcion, Cuneta’s eldest child, shared the stage with her mother, and though it isn’t the first time she has performed with her mother, she still turned emotional.

The actress-turned-jeweler recalled the moment in an Instagram post yesterday, Sept. 29.

Concepcion shared a video of their duet, where she is seen in a royal blue suit alongside her mom who was in a glittering red and feathered creation. The two performed Cuneta’s song “Dear Heart” and Nancy Wilson’s “If I Could”.

At the beginning of “If I Could”, Concepcion seems to be trying to hold back tears. She is unsuccessful and her voice eventually breaks. Her caption explains why she was sentimental about the song.

“Mom, I’ve grown up my whole life by your side, touring the world, watching you do this — performing on stage, singing your own songs for thousands of people who love you,” wrote Concepcion.

“This song in particular ‘If I Could’ has been one you’ve been singing to me since I was 7 years old… I can’t believe that tonight, I got to sing this song not just alongside you — but for you,” she said.

“I claim my position as your eldest child, with pride and joy no matter what that You are my Mother. I will always love and admire you in ways the rest of your audience will never know, nor see.”

Her ever-affectionate mom replied in the comments: “I love you with all my heart, and none of the fame and fortune I have been blessed with in all of my life shall ever mean more to me than you.”

“I wish I knew how to ‘mother’ you then the way I know how to now, but I’d like to believe I did a good job…I am very proud of the woman you have become, my Kristina,” Cuneta said.

The Megastar had Concepcion when she was 19, back when she was married to 1980s heartthrob Gabby Concepcion. Though her relationship with her former husband has been erratic, her love for her first child has been unwavering. Concepcion clearly reciprocates the love — she even took a break from her jet-setting lifestyle to head to Manila for her mother’s concert. JB
