After “Jurassic World”, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Transformers: The Last Knight”, French actor Omar Sy has opted for sled dog adventure “Call of the Wild”, based on the classic Jack London book of the same name.
Omar Sy will play an unknown role opposite Harrison Ford, who voices outdoorsman and central human character John Thornton, who is accompanied by Buck during his travels in the Yukon, Canada, reports Variety.
The Thornton part had previously been brought to life by Clark Gable and then Charlton Heston in 1935 and 1972 adaptations of London’s acclaimed story, first published in 1903.
This version has been written for the screen by Michael Green (“Logan”), with animated feature specialist Chris Sanders of “The Croods”, “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Lilo & Stitch” directing.
Production begins this month in California, with an eventual United States release planned for Dec. 25, 2019.
With 20th Century Fox in charge of “Call of the Wild”, the studio’s would-be new owner Disney has its own dog sledding saga in the works, preparing true story “Togo” for 2019, and casting Willem Dafoe as the driver of its record-breaking dog sled mission to a remote part of Alaska. JB
