“BlacKkKlansman” director Spike Lee has unveiled a music video for Prince’s previously unreleased track “Mary Don’t You Weep”, featuring scenes and stills from the movie.
The film is based on the real-life hero Ron Stallworth (played by John David Washington) who infiltrates a Colorado chapter of the Ku Klux Klan to expose their plan to attack people of color. It features the Prince song at the end credits.
The accompanying four-minute and 20-second video music clip for “Mary Don’t You Weep”, which is also part of the track list for Prince’s upcoming posthumous album, shows Stallworth fighting for civil rights in the late 1970s, amidst other scenes related to BlacKkKlansman”, and ends with a photo of Lee and Prince sitting courtside at a basketball game in New York in 1998.
The Prince music video is the second Lee has directed for the late pop icon. The first was back in 1992, “Money Don’t Matter 2 Night”. JB
