Turning a year old got a little sweeter for veteran songstress Pilita Corrales, as she was given a surprise treat by her loving family.
Asia’s Queen of Songs looked very much delighted when her brood gathered for an advance birthday party in a Quezon City restaurant. Corrales’ daughter Jackie Lou Blanco captured the moment in a video and shared it to their fans through her Instagram page yesterday, Aug. 20.
Corrales, clad in a black outfit, had her mouth open in awe, and laughed when she saw the surprise. The singer also pointed to one of her dear friends Conchita and gave her a hug.
“Yes, we managed to surprise my Mom on her birthday which is next to impossible,” Blanco wrote.
“Lagi kaming nahuhuli (We always get caught). Haha! Well, not this time.”
Blanco also thanked family members such as brother Ramon Christopher and his children Janine and Diego for coming to the party.
Another family member Cindy Corrales also shared the same video, this time from a different angle. She wrote that is has been a while since she saw her “Tita P” (aunt P) “flash her fanciest smile.”
“How does one please a señorita? How does one silence the critic in the queen?” Cindy asked. “I guess you’ve achieved that, @jackielou.blanco!”
Pio’s Kitchen, where the party was held, shared a photo of Corrales and Blanco dining at the restaurant. The post read: “Today we had the honor of meeting an icon in the industry but more than that, a mother, Mamita to all her apos (grandchildren), a sister, aunt and friend to many. ”
Fans and friends greeted Asia’s Queen of Songs a happy birthday, with some greetings coming from fellow celebrities such as Dawn Zulueta, Maritoni Fernandez and Gina Alajar. They lauded the singer for her enduring beauty and youthful spirit.

Fans can expect that while she’s turning 79 tomorrow, Aug. 22, there’s no stopping Corrales from still hitting those high notes and singing her beautiful songs. JB
