At some point in her life, Kapamilya comedian and TV host Melai Cantiveros said she tried be classy but ended up being a funny fail.

She shared the hilarious experience on “Tonight With Boy Abunda” where she was guest on Monday.

“Sinubukan ko talaga (I really tried), I’ve tried my best, but my best wasn’t good enough,” she said.

FEATURED STORIES

Cantiveros recalled that the incident happened over a month ago at a restaurant where she and her friend tried to behave like ‘upper class.’

Being a celebrity is a natural head turner. Hence, when she and her friend entered the restaurant, she said people immediately noticed them and were shocked to see her in person.

“Akala niyo mahihiya ako sa inyo, may pera ako – bagong sweldo a-diyes na ngayon (You think I’ll be embarrassed? I have money, I just got my salary, and it’s the tenth of the month),” she said in a very funny way.

When the waiter came to take their order, she said she had all the intention to sound classy, but she gave the orders in a rather ‘street-style way.’  She said, “Pa-order ako (I’ll order).”

She then realized that in such posh dining places, ordering something should also sound classy. Then she had a slip of the tongue which even ruined her ‘I’m-classy plan.’ She said, “Pa-order ako ng Blue Verry (I’ll order Blue Verry).”

Still confident despite her slip up, she went along with the plan, until her friend told the waiter: “Ako naman Chescake (Me, I’ll have Chescake).”

She said she realized then that she cannot be who she’s not. “Pinilit naming magpakasosyal pero hindi pala talaga kaya, kinarma agad kami (We tried to be classy, but it’s not us. It’s karma.)” she said.

The lesson she learned from this experience: “Huwag kang magpaka-feeling kung hindi naman talaga (Don’t pretend to be who you’re not).” /ee
