Sharon Cuneta reunites with Imelda Marcos, Erap Estrada at Mother Lily’s birthday bash

Mother Lily Monteverde marked her 80th birthday on Sunday, Aug. 19, with a lavish celebration at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria that brought the worlds of show biz and politics together.

Stars with political ties inevitably mingled with the politicians during the party,which paid tribute to the film producer behind Regal Films.

Sharon Cuneta was one such attendee: Aside from bringing her senator husband Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, she also proudly shared pictures of her interacting with Rep. Imelda Marcos and Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada.

The Megastar fondly calls the Ilocos Norte representative her “ninang,” or godmother, as Marcos’ late husband, then President Ferdinand Marcos, was a principal sponsor at Cuneta’s 1984 wedding when she was married to Gabby Concepcion.

Her father, Pablo Cuneta, was Pasay City mayor for four decades and was a Marcos supporter during the dictatorship.

Cuneta also shared affectionate moments with the Manila mayor, cupping his face in her hands and wrapping him in an embrace.

“With my dearest Tito and KC’s godfather (and my Daddy’s love), former President, Mayor Joseph Estrada,” said Cuneta. “I call him ‘Tito’ (uncle) and he calls me ‘Kumare!’ (dear friend).”

Cuneta’s brother Chet is set to run for Pasay mayor in the 2019 elections under a coalition that supports President Duterte. Estrada, too, is a supporter of the Duterte administration.

Pangilinan, on the other hand, remains with the opposition.

Actress Ruffa Gutierrez also snapped a picture with Marcos. “What an honor to be seated beside the iconic Madame Imelda Marcos,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for your kind words.”

And of course, Gutierrez and Cuneta showered each other with love in a picture together. Gutierrez called Cuneta her “idol,” while the Megastar referred to her as a “little sister” in their respective Instagram posts.

Gutierrez previously shared her interactions with other politicians including Estrada and Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Her mother Annabelle Rama’s side of the family is steeped into politics in Cebu. Rama’s cousin Michael “Mike” Rama was Cebu mayor and was tagged by Duterte as a drug protector.

Other political personalities who attended were senators Sonny Angara, Grace Poe and Cynthia Villar; former senator Jinggoy Estrada, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and former President Noynoy Aquino. Aquino graced the event with Ballsy Aquino-Cruz and nephews Joshua and Bimby. Kris Aquino said she was on bed rest at the time.  /ra
