Demi Lovato admits her ‘mental illness’ is something she has not yet overcome

After being rushed to the hospital late last month, reportedly due to drug overdose, Demi Lovato has finally broken her silence, saying that she needs “time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery.”

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I have learned is that this mental illness isn’t something that disappears and fades with time,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s something I must continue to overcome and haven’t done yet.”

The singer, who had also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and struggled with eating disorders, thanked God for “keeping me alive” and her loyal fans for their “love and support.”

“Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time,” said the 25-year-old celeb, whose new single “Sober” revealed her recent relapse.

According to a report by TMZ, Demi had already been discharged from the hospital and is “getting treatment at a rehabilitation facility, where she will remain for an extended period of time.”

“I look forward to the day when I can say I came out on the other side,” she said. “I will keep fighting.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
