Having played with time in “Doctor Who”, Steven Moffat is set to continue his journey through the ages with the novel “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger. The adaptation will soon be landing at HBO.

“The Time Traveler’s Wife” was first published in 2003. The dramatic love story will be transformed into a TV series by HBO, which has previously scored with adaptations like “Game of Thrones” and “Big Little Lies”.

“I read Audrey Niffenegger’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ many years ago, and I fell in love with it. In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’ as a direct response to it. When, in her next novel, Audrey had a character watching that very episode, I realised she was probably on to me. All these years later, the chance to adapt the novel itself is a dream come true. The brave new world of long form television is now ready for this kind of depth and complexity,” Moffat said in a statement.

Casting for the new series, to be produced by Warner Bros. Television and Hartswood Films, has yet to begin.

The news comes hot on the heels of another HBO series approved for development, “Euphoria”, which will feature actress Zendaya and be produced by rapper Drake. The pay television network is working hard to build on its reputation for high quality programming in the context of competition from Amazon and Netflix.
