Global box office: Tom Cruise rises to new heights in ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’
The sixth opus in the spy saga, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” has delighted audiences and leads box office rankings with $153.5 million in takings. Chinese comedy “Hello Mr. Billionaire” has overtaken the most popular animated feature of the moment, “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” for second place.
“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” by Christopher McQuarrie has got off to a flying start propelling it to first place in the global box-office rankings. Grossing $92 million in the United States on the first weekend following its release, the film with Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill has already accumulated receipts of more than $153.5 million worldwide.
Second place in the rankings is once again occupied by a Chinese film, “Hello Mr. Billionaire” by Da-Mo Peng and Fei Yan. In the wake of its release in China and the U.S., the highly successful comedy has already grossed $129.5 million worldwide.
The 3D animation feature “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” remains in the top three with $43.3 million in takings last weekend. Since its release, the comedy has accumulated 300 million dollars in receipts worldwide.
In what amounts to a major disappointment for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “Skyscraper” has plummeted from first place in last week’s rankings to seventh place in the latest figures, with additional takings of just $23.1 million.
