Jake McDorman to play Murphy Brown’s son and TV rival
Another popular TV show is getting a revival, and this time, it’s “Murphy Brown,” with star Candice Bergen slated to reprise her fearless investigative journalist character. She’ll be joined by other former cast mates from the original sitcom, as well as a new one in an important role.
Jake McDorman, star of the short-lived sci-fi/procedural series “Limitless,” will play Murphy’s son, Avery, who is now a competitive millennial journalist and host of a conservative news show, rivaling his mom’s new morning program.
A few days ago, McDorman shared a photo of him seated beside Bergen, his hand holding her shoulder, at what looked like a read-through for an episode. He simply wrote “Mom” in the caption.
When his casting was first announced in March, the 32-year-old actor shared the link to the news on Twitter, as well as an old photo of Bergen with the baby who was cast as Avery. “I am so humbled and excited to join the ‘Murphy Brown’ family,” tweeted McDorman, who starred in the TV show “Greek,” as well as films including “Aquamarine” and “Lady Bird.” “Murphy Brown” will air in the US later this year. —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
