From ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Venom’ to ‘Bumblebee’: Movies on the agenda at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con

The Comic-Con International entertainment and comic convention in San Diego, United States, is one of pop culture’s biggest events of the year. The 2018 edition, held July 19 to 22, is a great opportunity for movie fans the world over to find out more about some of the films currently in the works.
As one of the world’s biggest gatherings of pop culture enthusiasts, San Diego’s Comic-Con is set to bring all manner of news from the worlds of comic books and TV shows, as well as a host of surprises for movie fans.
One of the most eagerly anticipated pictures is no doubt “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa, which is expected to unveil its first trailer at the Californian convention, in the presence of the actors.
Warner Bros. is also likely to hit headlines with “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” if not for the presence of Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown.
Plus, Comic-Con could bring a new trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”, the latest film from the Wizarding World of the “Harry Potter” author, J.K. Rowling.
Sony will be at Comic-Con to present its “Venom” movie, directed by Ruben Fleischer, with lead actors Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams expected to be in attendance. News of the animated film, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”, is also on the agenda.
Jason Momoa and Tom Hardy may not be the only superhero alter-egos heading to San Diego, since “Wonder Woman” actress Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins could put in an appearance to reveal new footage from “Wonder Woman 1984”.
From a “Deadpool” extended cut to a “Transformers” spin-off
Despite landing in theaters in May this year, “Deadpool 2” is getting a special screening at Comic-Con in the form of an extended cut featuring deleted scenes. Fans no doubt hope that the event could lead to revelations about a potential third installment in the superhero saga. The presence of the movie’s actors is as yet unconfirmed.
“The Predator”, also from Fox, and helmed by Shane Black, could have some secrets to reveal, as its lead stars — including Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn and Yvonne Strahovski — head to Comic-Con.
From team Universal, M. Night Shyamalan will present his upcoming film, “Glass”, and David Gordon Green will discuss “Halloween” ahead of its October release.
Paramount Pictures will be bringing a “Transformers” spin-off to the California convention, marking the franchise’s San Diego Comic-Con debut. Director Travis Knight will be on hand to present “Bumblebee” due in U.S. theaters Dec. 21, joined by the film’s leading actress, Hailee Steinfeld.
Comic-Con International draws huge crowds, with more than 135,000 people attending the 48th edition in 2017, often dressed as their favorite superheroes and comic book characters. JB
