Teddy Corpuz feels for high school and college students who wade through floods just to attend their classes, so he had one suggestion in mind.
The Rocksteddy frontman and “It’s Showtime” mainstay thought it would best to implement one suspension of classes in all levels at the same time. He voiced out his idea on Twitter yesterday, July 17.
Corpuz at first retweeted a video from a netizen named aphrodite_minerva (@pearline_joy). She was saddened that Quezon City suspended classes for pre-school and elementary students only, leaving behind the higher year levels. The suspension was due to heavy rain brought about by Typhoon Henry.
To express his concern for the students, Corpuz reacted: “Isang malaking kalukohan talaga yung pre school & elementary [lang] ang walang pasok pero high school & college [m]eron.” (It’s hugely foolish that only pre-school and elementary students have no classes while high school and college students have.)
He added, in defense of the students: “Para nyong sinabi ‘kaya nyo na yang baha, traffic at ulan high school & college kids!'” (It’s as if you’re saying, “You can handle the flood, traffic and rain, high school and college kids!”)
From there, he posed a question: “Pwede ba pag walang pasok ang isa lahat Wala na din para standard [di] nakakalito?” (Can we just have no classes for all levels as a standard so it wouldn’t be confusing?)
In another tweet, Corpuz further asked, “Ano, water proof yung iba (students)?” (So, are the other students waterproof?)
Corpuz justified his idea of implementing one suspension for all levels. He cited three reasons: parents would be happy for not having to pick up kids and give school allowance; students would be able to “chill” and “have a break”; and there would not be too much traffic.
Several netizens had mixed reactions to Corpuz’s idea. One who agreed was Seven Villaraza (@mrhushthug), who appeared to get the singer’s sentiment coming from his own experience. He asked: “Ano, pre-school lang ang nagkakasakit kami hindi?” (What, are pre-school students the only ones who get sick, and we don’t?)
As to Corpuz’s stand that more people would be happy with class suspensions, one commenter JOHN Locke (@ButIvanUnlocked) disagreed, citing that public transport drivers who would have less commuters during suspensions would be affected: “Kawawa naman sila. May pamilya silang binubuhay.” (I feel sorry for them. They earn for their families too.)
What do you think of Corpuz’s idea? JB
