The awarding of winners in the first Subic Bay International Film Festival (SBIFF) was held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales on June 24.
Festival Directors Vic V. Vizcocho Jr. and Arlyn Dela Cruz-Bernal, both from Olongapo City, said it took them six months to mount SBIFF.
Dela Cruz-Bernal is a filmmaker, a producer, writer, and director, President and CEO of Blank Pages Productions, and News Director of Radyo Inquirer/Inquirer TV.
Vizcocho, on the other hand, is Publisher of Subic Bay News and President and CEO of FuelEast Energy Corporation.
SBIFF was held in partnership with the Harbor Point Ayala Mall.
Mr. Derrick Manuel, General Manager of Harbor Point Ayala Mall said there had been many attempts to launch a film festival in Subic Bay. The fifth attempt finally became a reality.
Six films by Filipino filmmakers were selected for the first SBIFF: Balatkayo, Bhoy Intsik, Rolyo, Isang Hakbang, Old Skool, and Ang Araw sa Likod Mo.
The winners were:
Best Picture – Bhoy Intsik;
Best Actor – RS Francisco, Bhoy Intsik;
Best Actress – Tessie Tomas, Old Skool;
Best in Cinematography- Rain Yamson III, Bhoy Intsik;
Best in Music – Noning Buencamino, Ols Skool;
Best in Prod Design – Roma Regala, Old Skool;
Best in Story and Screenplay – Ronald Carballo , Bhoy Intsik(
Best in Editing –Javier Abola, Ang Araw sa Likod Mo;
Best Director – Dominic Nuesa, Ang Araw sa Likod Mo
Best Ensemble – Isang Hakbang
