Marvel fans may finally get to see an Asian-American superhero—and a girl, at that—in her own solo movie.
Deadline reports that Sony and producer Amy Pascal are developing a movie based on the comic “Silk.” The comic features a Korean-American girl named Cindy Moon, who is bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker.
She gains similar abilities, but has a different set of powers, such as a stronger Spider-Sense and organic webs, which come from her fingers—in the movie, Peter requires a web-shooting device.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which Pascal also produced, already features a Cindy Moon as Parker’s classmate, played by Tiffany Espensen. She also appeared briefly in “Avengers: Infinity War” while Peter was in a school bus.
The actress has shared news articles of the potential movie on her social media accounts, perhaps indicating that she will play the lead role.
Pascal has produced female-led movies in Sony-based Pascal Pictures, including “Ghostbusters,” “The Post” and the upcoming “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.” She is also behind Spider Man spinoffs “Venom” and “Silver & Black,” which is based on two female characters, Silver Sable and Black Cat.
