Netizens were up in arms when a contestant’s performance in the episode of “Your Face Sounds Familiar: Kids” yesterday, June 3, had them wondering if an expletive was possibly blurted out on television.
The contestant, 12-year-old Sheena Belarmino, was tasked to impersonate American-Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj with her song “Starships”. Minaj’s song contains a couple of expletives and the lyrics just before the beat drops goes, “Hands up. We’re higher than a motherf*cker.”
The “Your Face Sounds Familiar” video of Belarmino’s performance was uploaded on YouTube, and netizens have since taken to Twitter after apparently hearing Belarmino say the curse words of the song during her performance.
“Bakit hindi bli-neep out ‘yung cursing ni Sheena as Nicki Minaj sa ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’?” asked netizen Keneth Quinto yesterday, June 3. “Hindi naman live ah? Magaling, magaling!”
(Why wasn’t the cursing of Sheena as Nicki Minaj not bleeped out in “Your Face Sounds Familliar”? It wasn’t live, right? Very good, very good.)

Another, one Alejandro Leon, tweeted, “Rated ‘G’ tapos hinayaan nila yung ‘[We’re] higher than a motherf*cker’ na sabihin nung bagets? Seriously ABS-CBN?!”

The netizens’ clamor seemed to have reached the people behind “Your Face Sounds Familiar” as they took to their official Twitter account yesterday to address the issue and clear out the allegations.
“Kafamiliars, we would like to inform you that all the lyrics that our celebrity kid performers sing are clean versions,” clarified the twitter account (@YourFacePH). “Sabi po ni Sheena ‘Mother Mother (Sheena said ‘Mother Mother).’’”

Some netizens, however, were still not convinced. “Mother mother??? Hindi ba mother father dapat?” replied a certain Elaine De Villa (@enialestar) today, June 4. “Pero Mother F*cker talaga narinig ko ilan beses ko pinakinggan at nag-headset pa ako. Anyways, you have the right to deny it naman.”
(Mother mother? Shouldn’t it be mother father? But I really heard “Mother F*cker.” I listened to it several times and even wore a headset. Anyway, you have the right to deny it.)

“I heard mother f*cker talaga pero kung mali ako, mother father yung sabi niya hindi mother mother!” added another Royco (@roycoalexblanco).

Meanwhile, one suggested that they should’ve done what the cast of the “Glee” TV series did when they altered the lyrics without the expletive. “The clean lyrics from the glee cast is ‘We’re higher than any other’ and that should have been what was taught to sheena & practiced,” wrote a certain Jen (@jendeguzman) yesterday.
